Apostles
& Prophets
An important component of Gnostic theology is the doctrine of the Apostles of Light who periodically came to earth to teach the Truth. In a Manichaean document we read: Furthermore, let him who is willing hearken and pay attention to how each one of the primeval patriarchs communicated his own revelation to a select (group) whom he chose and gathered together from that generation during which he appeared, and after writing (it down), he left it for future generations. Each (patriarch) revealed (information) about his heavenly journey, and they (i.e., the chosen group) promulgated beyond ... to record and display afterwards, and to laud and extol their teachers and the truth and the hope that was revealed to them. Thus each one spoke and wrote down a memoir recounting what he saw, including (an account) about his heavenly journey, during the period and cycle of his apostleship. - Baraies the Teacher, Cologne Mani Codex The
Nazoreans were known for accepting Prophets, but not necessarily the ones
within the Jewish Bible or the eastern sutras, even though the names might
be the same. This can be confusing to a modern Christian, but only if they
fail to realize how polarized ancient Judea was and how distinct were early
Nazorean Christians and later bible believing Roman Catholics.
In the heretic Epiphanius’ Panarion (Medicine Chest) 375 A.D. we read: 19.1 "Nasaraeans, meaning, "rebels," who forbid all flesh-eating, and do not eat living things at all. They have the holy names of patriarchs which are in the Pentateuch, up through Moses and Joshua the son of Nun, and they believe in them- I mean Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and the earliest ones, and Moses himself, and Aaron, and Joshua. But they hold that the scriptures of the Pentateuch were not written by Moses, and maintain that they have others." - Panarion 19.1
The pompous Epiphanius tells us that the Nazorean like Ebionites also believed in the advent of Prophets: "Ebionites are very like the Cerinthians and Nazoraeans; the sect of the Sampsaeans and Elkasaites was associated with them to a degree. They say that Christ has been created in heaven, also the Holy Spirit. But Christ lodged in Adam at first, and from time to time takes Adam himself off and puts him back on-for this is what they say he did during his visit in the flesh. Although they are Jews they have Gospels, abhor the eating of flesh, take water for God, and, as I said, hold that Christ clothed himself with a man when he became incarnate. They continually immerse themselves in water, summer and winter, if you please for purification like the Samaritans." - Panarion 30Here are just a few of the Light Messengers accepted by the Order of O:N:E:, arranged in the seven by seven Treasure Tree arangement: 49 Cycles(Daria) of Prophets/Figureheads of Life "The advent of the Apostle has occured at the
occasion...as I have told you. From Sethel the firstborn son of Adam up
to Enosh, together with Enoch; from Enoch up to Sem the son of Noah.......church
after it ...Buddha to the east, and Arhats, and the other......who were
sent to the Orient; from the advent of Buddha and Aurentes up to the advent
of Zarathustra to Persia, the occasion that he came to Hystaspes the king,
from the advent of Zarathustra up to the advent of Jesus the Christ, the
son of Greatness,....When the church of the Savior was raised to the heights,
my apostolate began, which you asked me about. From that time on
was sent the Paraclete, the Spirit of Truth, the one who has come to you
in this last generation." - Kephalaia of Mani, 1
